My name is Laura Bledsoe and I have lived in Knoxville for twenty years. I am a teacher by trade, but an artist at heart. I began painting in 1999 when asked to illustrate a children's book for a graduate class at the University of Tennessee. I love to paint and consider my work to be, above all else, visual play.
My predominant and preferred medium is acrylic and from time to time, I enjoy working with pastels. I have been working with things visual for approximately twelve years now and I consider all my work to be a reflection of my approach to life. The work is whimsical, colorful, and playful. It is presented to the viewer to be enjoyed rather than studied.
I become more passionate about my work with each painting that I do. My colors are very rich and brilliant and the application of those colors is more like molding than painting. Subject matter is secondary to process. And process yields things fanciful that are in celebration of the creations of both God and man.
